Their history goes with them.

A pet gets one pass. Show it at a participating groomer and they can understand the coat, the handling and what worked before — without starting the profile again.

No account, no password, no app. About a minute.

Lulu’s TERA pass — a four-year-old Japanese Spitz, her photo and QR code, and three recent professional grooming records.

What TERA stands for

Trusted Exchange of Records for Animals

An exchange, not a database someone owns. The record belongs to the animal, and it moves with them.

The problem

One pet. Different groomers. No starting over.

A new salon means a blank form and a groomer finding everything out for themselves. The pass carries what the last professionals already learned, so the pet is not a stranger twice.

A different business, six months later. Nothing to fill in.

    Groomer C

New city, new salon. The same profile, one groom deeper.

What travels with them

The profile stays. The record grows.

Not a verdict on the pet — the specific things that make the next groom go better. A sore leg to lift slowly, what set the dryer off, what settled it. The owner never rebuilds any of it.

Coat

Double coat, white. Moderate matting behind the ears and collar area in May.

Care to take

An old injury in the left hind leg. Lift it slowly and support it — two groomers have now seen the same reaction.

Professional history

  • Front paws

    25 Aug

Sensitive during handling. Slower handling worked well.

    System verified

  • Left hind leg

    2 Aug

Pulled the leg away each time it was lifted. Owner reports an old injury there; supporting it worked.

    Pass presented

  • Full groom

    12 Jul

Growled when the dryer started at the hindquarters. Towel drying instead finished it calmly.

    1h 42m · System verified

Records are shown to Lulu’s owner without naming which business wrote each one.

Handling

Growled when the dryer started, at two different salons. Towel drying settled it both times.

Professional observations

What a groomer saw during one visit, with a date. TERA has no field for “difficult” or “aggressive” — those describe a pet, not an event.

The rule TERA is built on

TERA records events, not reputations.

No pet has a score.

  • A record describes what happened during one visit, with a date and the evidence behind it.
  • It never becomes a rating, a permanent label or a blacklist.
  • Customers can read every professional record shared about their pet, and dispute anything they believe is wrong.
  • Businesses see context and evidence — never a TERA judgment about whether a pet is good or bad.

For grooming businesses

Know more before the groom starts.

TERA sits alongside whatever you already run — a booking platform, specialised grooming software, or nothing but a diary. Nothing to migrate.

What it costs

Nothing, to anyone.

TERA is free for pet owners and free for grooming businesses. There is no subscription, no fee to scan a pass and no paid tier holding anything back.

It is kept up by the people who use it. Owners keep their pet’s details right and can dispute a record they believe is wrong; the professionals who groom them add what they found. That is the whole maintenance model, and it is why nothing here needs to be sold.

The pass

It lives on the phone they already carry.

Save the pass once. Open it at the counter, show the QR, and the pet’s identity is there — nothing to download, nothing to remember.

  • No separate app for pet owners — ever.
  • Lost the phone? Four words bring the pass back on any other one.
  • Replace the pass and the old QR stops working immediately.

Give them a record that goes with them.
